Heaven and Earth, and I are living together, and all things and I form an inseparable unity

Chuang Tzu

Chinese wisdom tells us that all things are manifestations of the Tao – which creates and sustains everything in the universe.  The Tao breaks apart into two forces known as yin and yang that both oppose and complement each other.  They further divide into five phases that we call the five elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.

Each element is connected with a myriad of factors such as certain archetypes,  govern different organs in our body and, in nature, the seasons.

In five element acupuncture, diagnosis and treatment is based upon an understanding that each one of us has a particular relationship with one element.

This element adds a certain flavor to our lives, which makes some of us more playful or reserved, others more full of will or worrisome.  This element reveals its imbalance during times of stress through specific physical and emotional signs.

Dr. Johal’s advanced training in 5 element acupuncture will ensure a complete diagnosis and treatment that is in line with the client as a whole (physically, emotionally and spiritually) and not just a collection of their symptoms.

It is important to note that although we may be governed by one element,  we possess and have access to all 5. By treating clients with this understanding we ensure that these elements remain in balance and harmony - which then correspond to a strong body, present mind and healthy spirit.
